Judges are allowed to ignore minimum sentences for any crime other than murder or sexual assault, meaning a person old enough to be out of college can commit assault, armed robbery, or carjacking and then be given a slap on the wrist.

Is it any wonder that DC is a dangerous dump? The authorities may as well shout from the rooftops that they love criminals and hate their victims.
