TON Brings Back โGramโ as Pavel Durov Announces Major Rebrand
Pavel Durov has officially announced that TONโs native currency will be renamed back to โGram,โ reviving the original name from the first TON white paper.
In a message posted on his official Telegram channel, Durov said:
According to the announcement, the move is part of the broader โMake TON Great Againโ roadmap and is described as a return to the projectโs roots. TON will continue to be the name of the blockchain, while the native cryptocurrency is expected to transition from Toncoin to Gram over the next three weeks.

However, todayโs TON ecosystem operates under a very different structure. After Telegram exited the project, an independent community continued development, eventually launching The Open Network with Toncoin as its native currency. Over the years, Telegram gradually re-integrated TON into its ecosystem through wallets, Mini Apps, digital collectibles, and payment infrastructure.

The TON community has voted to rename Toncoin (TON) to #Gram (GRAM), with 81.2% of votes cast in favor and 18.3% against.
The change affects only the token's name and ticker. The blockchain will remain The Open Network (#TON), and no token swap, migration, or user action is required.
All balances, wallets, smart contracts, and staking positions will remain unchanged, meaning 10 TON will simply become 10 GRAM.
