Telegram is a force for good. Banning it — even temporarily — is a mistake.

⚠️ Indian telecom Reliance is sabotaging access to Telegram for millions of users OUTSIDE India (including the UAE) via a rogue method called BGP hijacking.🧨 The sabotage seems intentional, as Reliance has ignored multiple reports.😞 This may be part of a competitive war, as Reliance is partially owned by Meta — the company behind WhatsApp.🌐 Network operators are advised to reject unauthorized BGP announcements from Reliance (AS18101) to prevent route hijacks and ensure stable Internet access for their users.🤔 Such abuse of global Internet routing is suspicous. I wouldn’t be surprised if Reliance/WhatsApp were also behind the recent lobbying effort to ban Telegram in India.

This image shows that Reliance's network (AS18101) was announcing several Telegram-owned IP address ranges on the Internet's routing system (BGP). Normally, these IP ranges should be announced by Telegram's own network. Because of this unusual routing behavior, some network operators suspect a possible BGP route leak or hijack, which could affect users' ability to connect to Telegram.

According to this Bar and Bench report, Telegram has mentioned a petition before the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi challenging MeitY's direction (issued at the NTA's request) to block the platform until June 22, 2026. The Court has agreed to list the matter today
