We want to introduce you some interesting channels we recently discovered:
Removing data on frequently messaged contacts and inline bots
To populate the ‘People’ box at the top of the Search section, Telegram calculates which of your chat partners you are likelier to message frequently. We calculate a similar rating for inline bots – thanks to that, the app can suggest you the bots you use frequently whenever you open the attachment menu (or start a new message with “@”).
We've implemented a way for you to remove this data from Telegram servers and stop Telegram from collecting it. It will become available in version 4.8.3 for iOS and version 4.8.10 for Android. Unfortunately, the update is still under review at the moment, but we expect it to become available in the nearest future.
Once you get the update, go to Settings > Privacy & Security and disable ‘Suggest Frequent Contacts’ to stop calculating ratings for contacts and inline bots, and delete all relevant data.

Replace Media, Share vCards, Mark as Unread, 2X Voice Messages, and More
Telegram 4.8.3 for iOS and 4.8.10 for Android are out today, bringing several nifty features and improvements.
1️⃣ Replace Media and Add Captions
Sending the wrong picture by accident is rarely fun. On Telegram, it was already possible to delete the message for everyone and send a new one instead. Now you can just replace photos or videos with the right versions right away
Start editing the message, then tap the paperclip button to replace the attached media. You can also add captions to photos or videos that didn't have one.
2️⃣ Double-Time Playback for Voice and Video Messages
You'll like this one if your friends enjoy sending long and thoughtful voice notes. From now on, you can switch to 2X playback and hear people get to the point faster.
We did our special best to ensure that your friends don't sound like Helium-breathing chipmunks as a result. Well, most of the times.
3️⃣ Mark as Read or Unread
This offers a quick way to get less important messages out of the way and highlight the chats that require your future attention.
4️⃣ Share vCards
Sometimes you want to share more info about a contact than just one number. With this update, you can select what data you want to send when sharing a contact. For example, several phone numbers or other vCard fields.
5️⃣ And Two More (on Android 💪)
— Android users are getting a few extra goodies with version 4.8.10. Use the “create link” option in the formatting menu to make text URLs
— Last but not least, it is now possible to cancel sending messages before they were sent.

To all our readers in Europe:
Tomorrow (5 July 2018), the European Parliament will vote on a new copyright directive. If approved, these changes threaten to disrupt the open Internet.
▶️ More info https://creativecommons.org/2018/06/20/european-parliaments-legal-affairs-committee-gives-green-light-to-harmful-link-tax-and-pervasive-platform-censorship/
The committee voted 13-12 in favor of Article 11, the provision known as the “link tax,” which grants an additional right to press publishers requiring anyone using snippets of journalistic content to first get a license or pay a fee to the publisher for its use online. Article 11 is ill-suited to address the challenges in supporting quality journalism, and it will further decrease competition and innovation in news delivery. Similar efforts have already failed miserably in Germany and Spain
The committee voted 15-10 in favor of Article 13, the provision that would require online platforms to monitor their users’ uploads and try to prevent copyright infringement through automated filtering. Article 13 will limit freedom of expression, as the required upload filters won’t be able to tell the difference between copyright infringement and permitted uses of copyrighted works under limitations and exceptions. It puts into jeopardy the sharing of video remixes, memes, parody, and code, even works that include openly licensed content

As you might have heard, for the last couple of years we’ve been quietly rebuilding Telegram for iOS from scratch with Swift – a programming language released by Apple as a faster alternative to Objective C.
The Swift version of Telegram looks exactly as the old one, but is faster, slicker and more battery-friendly than the good old Telegram (which was already great considering it outperformed other messaging apps in speed).
This new Telegram has been available for everyone to download under the name “Telegram X” since January. Thousands of users have been testing it and sharing their feedback with us, so thanks to them the app is now much more polished than a few months ago. While we are still putting some finishing touches on it, it seems that the new Telegram is ready to be shipped to every Telegram user on iOS.
That’s why within the next week or two we are planning to update the default Telegram iOS App with the Swift version. As a result, Telegram will become faster, slicker and more efficient. Since it will rely on an entirely new codebase, some minor bugs and glitches might occur, but we’ll make sure they are quickly – or should I say “swiftly” – fixed.
This change will make Telegram the most popular messaging app written fully in Swift. Some would say it’s a big risk, but I think somebody has to take such risks and be the first to implement new technologies, such as e2e encryption – or Swift.
