Deeply saddened by the passing of National University of Singapore’s Emeritus Professor John Miksic last Saturday. Professor Miksic was a seminal figure in the field of archaeology in Southeast Asia. His work transformed our understanding of Singapore’s pre-colonial history.

I visited Bangkok to pay respects to the late Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, Thailand’s Queen Mother. Had an excellent discussion with Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa of East Java on the longstanding and fruitful ties between Singapore and her home province this afternoon.

It was a privilege to catch up with NS officers and commanders at the Reservist Officers’ Staff Course dinner last night. Many SAF NS officers attended the ROSC, to prepare them for higher appointments. Though new courses have succeeded the ROSC, the SAF’s efforts to constantly train and upgrade the Operationally Ready National Servicemen continues. I worked closely with Pak Jokowi for 10 years to strengthen Singapore-Indonesia ties. We have navigated challenges and celebrated successes together, and built on the work of our predecessors.
