Several disease outbreaks have been recorded in Nigeria in the last 10 years with imported cases of #Ebola in 2014, annual outbreaks of #YellowFever, #LassaFever, #CerebrospinalMeningitis, #cholera, #measles, and most recently, #COVID19.
In response to lessons learned from the 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome outbreak, World Health Organization (WHO) accelerated the revision of the International Health Regulations - essential for addressing global health security, which Nigeria adopted in 2005 and came into force in 2007.
In this article, we share Nigeria's experience of conducting a country-led midterm self-assessment using a slightly modified application of the second edition of the WHO JEE and the new WHO benchmarks tool

Nigeria is at HIGH risk of an #Ebola outbreak given the proximity of Uganda, as well as other factors including:
➡️Unavailability of licensed vaccine for prevention
➡️Increased air travel between Nigeria & Uganda
➡️High death rate of the disease
