Its #WorldRabiesDay

More than 95% of #rabies cases in humans are from dog bites.

This year, we join the global community to call for strengthened health systems and #OneHealth collaborations to ensure zero deaths from #rabies.

#OneHealthZeroDeaths
#OneHealthNigeria aims to build a nation of healthy people, animals & environment.

Some issues requiring the #OneHealth approach include:
Zoonotic diseases eg. #LassaFever, #rabies
Environmental contamination
Water/Food safety
#AntimicrobialResistance
#OneHealth approach recognises that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment.

This #OneHealthDay, we reiterate the importance of joint efforts to address public health concerns at the human-animal-environment interface.
Zoonotic, water/food borne & vector-borne diseases eg. #cholera, #LassaFever, #measles, #monkeypox etc. repeatedly pose threats to humans & animals with significant disability & death rates

Nigeria's #OneHealth strategic plan aims to tackle this challenge

Together, we can make a rabies-free world a reality!
Recent global health events including the #COVID19 pandemic and #mpox outbreak, are examples of diseases emerging as a result of close contact between animals and people.

#OneHealth approach recognises the close connection between the health of people, animals, and the environment and the role this connection plays in the spread of diseases.
