Recently, leadership from Indian Affairs visited Alaska and California to meet with tribal leaders and discuss ways to streamline processes and reduce red tape.
These efforts arenβt just bureaucratic β they directly support tribal law enforcement officers by making it easier for them to access funding, training, and resources. When tribal police have what they need, they can focus on protecting their communities, preventing crime, and keeping residents safe.
By working hand-in-hand with tribal leaders, Indian Affairs ensures the federal government meets its trust responsibility, strengthens law enforcement, and empowers officers to serve effectively.

The Los Angeles Police Departmentβs Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred in Devonshire Division.
On July 20, 2025, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Devonshire Patrol Division uniform officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect armed with a firearm in the 20000 block of Prairie Street. As a LAPD air unit arrived over the call location, they observed the suspect on a skateboard, attempting to flee and directed responding officers to the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Romario Iraheta, now at the 9300 block of Corbin Avenue. Iraheta continued to flee, and a foot pursuit ensued, during which he pointed a firearm at officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.
Iraheta was struck by gunfire but continued to run, stopping a short time later, and was taken into custody. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for a gunshot wound. The suspect was hospitalized in stable condition and was absentee booked for ADW on a Police Officer with a Firearm.
No officers or community members were injured during this incident.
A black steel handgun, loaded with a high capacity magazine and live rounds, was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence.
