We continue our #safety series, where we break down popular scam tactics and how to avoid them. Today’s topic: the classic fake NFT giveaway.

Imagine this: you open TON Space and see a new NFT. The description claims you’ve received 300 USDT — just follow the link to claim it. Sounds tempting. Maybe it’s even a “gift” from a project you recently interacted with? 🤔

After thinking it over, you click the link and land on a professional-looking website. It asks you to verify ownership of the NFT — to do that, you’re asked to log in. There are two options: enter your seed phrase or connect your wallet.

Your seed phrase is sometimes referred to as a “recovery phrase” or “secret phrase” 💎

Since you already know you should never share your recovery phrase, you choose the other option — connecting your wallet. The site immediately prompts you to “approve” a transaction in TON Space. Already thinking about what you’ll spend your 300 USDT on, you click confirm… and all your funds are gone 👎

What happened? The NFT was bait, and the site was fake. Scammers send out fake tokens like this and wait for users to click the link in the description. From there, they either trick you into sharing your recovery phrase so they can take over your wallet or get you to sign a transaction that transfers your funds directly to them.

How to stay safe:

● Don’t follow links or scan QR codes from unknown NFTs.
● Never share your recovery phrase — enter it only in TON Space.
● Ignore suspicious “gifts” — anyone can send you an NFT if they know your address.
● Always review every transaction before confirming it.
● And remember: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

NFTs aren’t dangerous by themselves. The only danger lies in what you might accidentally do if you let your guard down 🛡
