Humans are continually faced with an increasing number of diseases that are gotten from animals through the environment or direct contact with the animals.

These diseases are called zoonotic diseases and need to be tackled using a One Health approach.

In 2017, NCDC convened a multi-sectoral group of experts to analyse and prioritise zoonotic diseases in Nigeria.

This was an important step towards ensuring limited resources, using a One Health approach, were effectively channelled to tackle the “highest-burden" conditions.
