In reporting week 32, the number of suspected cases of #cholera increased to 121 cases.

Our weekly situation report provides an update on the current #cholera epidemiological situation in Nigeria and our response activities.

People who consume potentially contaminated food or fruits without washing and cooking properly are at higher risk of #cholera infection.

Ensure that food is well cooked before consumption.

Only consume raw food such as fruits and vegetables, after washing thoroughly with safe water.

Signs and symptoms of #cholera include profuse watery diarrhoea (rice water stools), nausea, vomiting, and weakness.

Do not self-medicate!

Visit a primary health care centre close to you for proper treatment.

#Cholera is a waterborne disease, and the risk of transmission is higher when there is poor sanitation and disruption of clean water supply.

The long-term solution for #cholera control lies:
➡️Safe drinking water
➡️Proper environmental sanitation
➡️ Proper personal hygiene

As of 29th September, over 10,000 suspected cases of #cholera have been recorded from the 36 States + FCT.

The ongoing cholera outbreak has been worsened by limited access to clean water, open defecation, & poor hygiene practices in affected communities.

Severe cases of #cholera can lead to death within hours due to massive loss of body fluid.

Ensure prompt administration of oral rehydration solution (ORS) to replace lost fluids and visit a health care facility immediately for proper treatment.

💡 What is Cholera?
Cholera is a bacterial infection that causes severe diarrhea and dehydration. It spreads through contaminated food and water. To prevent cholera:
Drink safe water
Wash hands with soap under clean running water regularly
Eat properly cooked food
Maintain proper sanitation
